An Apology

pottydollBefore I start - isn’t this the cutest thing.  Mike put the dolly in the potty because she was leaking after her bath with Annabel, and then Annabel came and gave the Baby Doll a book to read while she sat on the potty.

On to the apology.  I know I have been a bit snippy with EVERYONE (especially poor Mike) these past few days.  I blame Baby Doot-Doot (poor baby, I know it isn’t Baby’s fault) and the weather.  It is just so hot and I am so big and naturally getting bigger.  I have pretty much run out of clothes and so Mike and I have even more laundry to do because I am constantly washing my two pairs of maternity yoga pants (from Target - yes I am living in them - - - but they are clean because of all the aforementioned washing).  But with the stupid record highs (hello, how can there be heat indexes between 115 degrees and 118 degrees when it is only the second real day of summer?) and stupid severe drought and then misplacing my keys so we are stuck at home (where I have been running the air conditioner constantly but the house keeps telling me it isn’t any cooler than 80 degrees) I am just done (somebody stick a fork in me).  To top it all off I got a big old scratch from Leo on my belly the other day  (my fault not his)so I am presently left with only one side to sleep on at night (aargh, ugh, uck).  All in all I am big an tired and taking it out on everyone else.  I apologize.  I think the heat is the worst because it limits me and Annabel so much in what we can do - and neither of us feel much like doing anything - - - we are lethargic slugs.  But anyways, all you sweet people out there take all of my remarks with a grain of salt (especially you Mike).

What else is new?  Annabel is doing great with her letters (we are teaching her random letters that she has an association with instead of doing them in ‘alphabetical order’).  So far she knows, “m” for mama, “n” for nana, “o” because it is fun to say, “s” because it is fun to say, “d” for daddy, and “v” for vacuum.  She catches on to others but these guys she knows real well.

I am sending out a Great Big Thank You to Grandmom Tink for all of the stuff she has made for us.  Annabel loves her new Grandmom TInk dress and refused to take it off this weekend - she especially loves the buttons.  Mama also loves her dress (with a very minor adjustment and not the big old mismeasurement I think I was confusing Grandmom Tink into thinking existed) and is thrilled with the diaper holder for Baby Doot-Doot which is hanging and waiting for baby’s arrival to be slowly (ha - make that fastly b/c it is a newborn) emptied of freshly washed diapers.

I also want to say a Great Big Thank You to Cousin Chloe, Annemarie, and Bud for sending us the HUMONGOUS box of clothes for Annabel.  Annabel loves her Cousin Chloe clothes (especially the winter clothing - fun in the summer sun eh?)  Annabel’s wardrobe has now pretty much quadrupled (and just in time because we were running out of normal play shirts and shorts that covered my sweet baby’s cute belly - it is actually a bit embarrassing how we dress her at home.)

Oh yes, and a bit of a clarification on my Annabel Vocab post.  The words she knows and says are not crystal clear but still cute baby speak.  She knows them as words and says them but I am absolutely sure that I understand them much better than I imagine other people can.  Yeah, my baby is a genius and I am that mom.  But everyone can definitely understand her when she says “money” and “more money” when we are out in public (yay - eh).

And on to Baby Doot-Doot.  We are getting closer to the due date (fourth of july) but not on top of it yet.  I am getting frustrated because I can wake up or go through the day and KNOW that today is not the day - - - absolutely not the day  - - - and that is frustrating.  I can’t wait to see my doctor on Friday because then I will have an update on the progress we are making and be better able to judge when Doot-Doot might arrive.  Presently we are edging to the end of my initial “not for at least 2 more weeks” prediction.  But, as I have said before, there is no reason to think Doot-Doot will arrive before July and every reason (upper level high anyone) to think the Fourth might be a bit optimistic.

I think I shall stop because I am just complaining to complain now.  Oh, but if any of you know a good rain dance or something  it would be great if you could do one for us because I am done with all this heat (how many days are there in summer anyway?)!

Oh, and I owe you all a Father’s Day Post and the promised Poopy Post.  Check out our flickr to see the visuals on Father’s Day - there were ducks and donuts and fun had by all.

Why I Blame the Weatherperson

letsgo

Annabel is all ready to take mama to the hospital for Baby Doot-Doot’s impending arrival - shame that Baby Doot-Doot likes hanging out with just mama so very much.  Yup, made it to 38 weeks - so that means two weeks until my due date (The Fourth of July).  I think Doot-Doot just wants to be a summer baby and not a silly spring baby because everyone knows summer babies are the best (so says this summer baby of a mama).

We had our appointment on Thursday and some progress has been made by Mama and Doot-Doot (about 3 cm dilated but not quite) and baby Doot-Doot is a bit lower and still head down (don’t go changing now baby).  So I was probably right last Friday when I predicted not for another two weeks (meaning one week to go until I can reassess the situation).  I think I confused everyone when I said not for another two weeks last week.  I did not mean Baby Doot-Doot would be coming in two weeks but that I could only see two weeks into the future at that point - knowing I was only between 1-2 cm dilated I just did not see anything happening for two weeks BUT I would and will and do need to see how we progress before I can make any future predicitons.  (As most of you mom’s out there know, getting past the 3cm mark - be it in a 24 hour labor and deliver or my more slow and drawn out month long dilation journey - is the hardest to get by.  Or at least for me it was and apparently is again.)

But, I think everything would be moving a little bit more quickly if not for the darn weather person.  Okay, so maybe not specifically the weather person but the upper level high that they keep showing and showing and showing because the darn thing just won’t go away.  Everyone knows a drop in pressure brings on labor and babies so until this upper level high goes away I will be lucky if I ever do make it to 3cm for real and good.  And, I don’t really want to go into labor until I hit magic number 4cm at least.  So what does all this nonsense I am yammering on about mean?  Well, I would like to slowly dilate to 4 cm preferably by Wednesday or Thursday or Friday when the weather people are predicting (or more likely hoping) the high will finally leave.  Then I anticipate my contractions will become more regular over the next few days until Baby Doot-Doot gets the idea to finally arrive on the scene.

Oh, but aren’t dreams and ideals nice?  Hey, a girls gotta have them after the week I had.  Oh, it was a week which culminated in (in my opinion) not much progress along the lines of getting any closer to labor and then - - - to add insult to injury - - - the one thing I had been craving for over a week, well Ben & Jerry’s is out of that flavor.  How can you be out of Butter Pecan?  By the way, there is absolutely no reason Baby Doot-Doot should arrive before the due date.  With Annabel there were multiple separate complications giving her reason enough to arrive at 37 weeks.  Baby Doot-Doot is lacking any external motivation and may actually like it inside better because then it’s all Doot-Doot all the time.

So, I guess that is all.  We may end up having a sweet July Baby just like mama here is.  Nothing wrong with that - except I am big and tired and it is so very hot.

Baby Nana is now really no longer a baby - 20 months old! WOW

hair

(on the 17th she made 20 months)

And look how long her hair is!  You should see it when it is wet and the curl is lacking . . . it goes down her back.  Well, the back of it does - - - she still has the whole toddler mullet thing going on in the front.  We are loathe to cut it though until the shortest pieces are a bit longer because it took her so long to get this nice amount of hair.  But on to the topic of her age - can you believe that she is 20 months old?  That means in 4 months she will be TWO YEARS OLD.  HOLY COW! She is my big girl now, and her vocabulary just grows by leaps and bounds - we never know what word she will say next and we are constantly surprised by her new acquisitions.  I know I am going to repeat myself and have already told you some of these words that she knows - but you can scan this part if it bores you (no offense will be taken).

These are the words she says that would be understandable by people other than just me and Mike:

money, more, mama, me, moon, dada, daddy, leo, gracie, cat, fluffy, car, flap, help, yeah, yes, yup, no, up, potty, pee-pee, poo-poo, pull-up, panty, pop-pop, purple, super-duper, peace (for please), home, on, off, pot, tea pot, cup, tea cup, sip, sippy, sip-cup, foof (for food), office, green, pet, baby, baby nana, baby doot-doot, boo-boo, toe, shoe, kiss, hook, where’d it go, come, out, me, come on, fluff, pippi (as in  longstocking), duck, quack, meow, sit (which is sometimes sit and sometimes seat and unfortunately sometimes sheet or sh*t), house, ow, cool (for cold), tool, shed, cut, and her new favorite word - cake (as in daddy’s birthday cake - “cake where’d it go” she might ask)

cake

These are the words she says that are understandable only by me and Mike:

d (for down), doopa-doopa (for gloves - we think it is because we always indicate the computer is used with fingers and she calls the computer the super duper), shissha (for lizard), seesha (for cereal), sheesha (for scissors), many (for her mandy doll which used to belong to mama), whoowhoo (for train), swingaswinga (for monkey), go-ah go-ah (when she wants us to sing a song), kahpah . . . (is what she says when she pretend reads to her baby dolls), wuhwuhwuh (for work), shhhhhhhh (for shower), vroom sound (for vacuum), mmmmmmmm engine sound (for lawn mower)

And there are probably most likely more words for each list I just don’t remember right now anymore of her words and phrases.  She also signs with her hands.  She has her own signs for:  more, all done, plane, monkey, elephant, sprinkles and she pants when she wants to indicate a dog - - - again I know there are more that we use but I can’t think of any right now.  She is also very good at putting sentences together.  She can and will and does say things like “baby nana foof” or “dada shhhhh purple car wuhwuhwuh office super-duper” -  to mean “daddy took a shower then drove in his purple car to work at the office on the computer”.  Most of her sentences are the normal short two or three word demands “come mama come - go dada shhhh”.

lovey

In other news Annabel is also just plain great.  She is the sweetest little baby.  When I say “ow” she automatically comes over to kiss my boo-boo (which she also automatically assumes is on my toe) - so yes she does run over all the time and kiss my feet (kind of funny and I can’t wait to hold that over her head when she is a tween or teen or whatever is a difficult age).  I do kinda feel bad because when she falls I always tell her to dust off first (partly because it is difficult for me to bend over and kiss her toes) and also so she will be independent.  Annabel loves to read and play with her puzzles and baby dolls.  She feeds them and is doing all the imaginary social play appropriate for her age range (you know - the kind of stuff that is so sweet to see a barely toddler do).  She especially loves trains of all kinds and sorts.  Big trains and little trains and books about trains.  She also LOVES LOVES LOVES fire engines.  We have one fire engine book mama reads multiple times a day to Miss Nana.  Annabel is also doing great with the potty training.  She is all about sitting on the potty and going pee-pee and especially poo-poo.  But, I will get into that in another post -  I have thoughts, deep thoughts that need to be pondered over on their own.  Annabel still loves to vacuum and swiffer and clean in general.  She also loves marching around the house with mama playing musical instruments and singing the Ants Go Marching or We’re Following the Leader.

In addition to being a big old sweetheart to mama, Miss Nana also worries about babies when we hear them crying when we are out in public.  She knows with all her heart that those babies either need a “sip cup” or a “mama kiss”.  She will blow a kiss at a crying baby to make it feel better - bodes well for us eh?  She also still adores her cats.  Kisses for cats and soft pets are quite often the best distraction when Annabel is having a rough day - that and feeding them copious amounts of treats and food.  Not that she minds reprimanding them.  If someone is being bad she will walk up to them and say “go gracie go” or leo, or cat (for gromit).  She also tells them “hush” when mama asks her to and “pssss” as we walk in the house so they won’t run out.

ohdaddy

Annabel also has her own view of the world and daddy’s place in it (inspired by mama - oh poor daddy).  Whenever a cabinet that is supposed to be locked with a baby proof lock is left unlocked Miss Nana automatically says, with a sigh, “Oh dada” just like mama taught her to.  And all of the forbidden food and drink is called “dada foof.”  For example, if Annabel wants a grown up cookie (as opposed to the healthier baby cookies) she will run to the cupboard, bang on the door and say, “nana - dada foof, dada foof - baby nana”.  Annabel also thinks daddy kisses are much more powerful than mama kisses and will sometimes tell me no when I offer to kiss a boo boo and say, “dada hoooome, kiss”.  I don’t mind because I know I created this little daddy’s girl.  Annabel is also thrilled that mama bought her a purple (matchbox) car so now she has a car to drive to “wuhwuhwuh” just like daddy’s purple work car.  As for ladders - well Nana knows very well, “mama no no up, Baby Nana no no up, Dada up.”  What a silly monkey she is!

All in all Miss Nana is way too smart for mama.  She listens to EVERYTHING and even understands when we try to substitute words.  Oh Miss Pretty you keep me on my toes!

ham

In other other news Annabel is finally edging away from her shy stage and becoming quite the little ham.  When we have visitors she will at first just duck her head and smile - but pretty soon she is showing off and watching to make sure that you are paying attention to her.  She also LOVES LOVES LOVES to laugh when someone makes a joke.  It is hilarious.  She listens to adult conversation and probably has no clue what is going on but then laughs with the rest of us which makes all of us laugh even harder.

And there is more more more about my now 20 month old baby girl (I still just can’t believe that she is getting to be such a big girl).  She climbs and can almost jump.  She loves to bounce and spin and is always trying to persuade us it is time for bouncing on our bed (which we let her do while she is surrounded by pillows - it is a great way to wear her out).  She can stack blocks and run faster than mama can keep up with her.  All in all she is active and smart and a perfect little sweetheart who loves her mama and her daddy and her baby doot-doot and her cats more than anything in the world.

Happy Birthday Hubby

I love you so.  And Annabel adores and loves you too!

daddydaddy

As much as she is her mama’s baby - she is her daddy’s girl . . .you two are two peas in a pod and both with the same sense of humor and the same taste in food - weird but true.  Have a wonderful birthday honey!  I love you !

Love,

Me

37 weeks, 2 cm, and a Belly kiss

37-weeks

Saturday June 13th makes us 37 weeks along - which is a big YAY for me and Baby Bump #2.  We had our doctor’s appointment today and I am about 2 cm dilated which is another big fat YAY!  But I’m thinking Annabel’s Baby Doot-Doot won’t be here for another  2 weeks, I’m just not feeling it.  Annabel came after a week or two of pretty regular contractions (which I totally thought were just practice) but apparently weren’t and I was already 4.5 cm dilated before real (in my mind) labor started.  Nothing happening yet this time.  And so we wait.  We’ve had a bunch of waiting today.  Our poor doctor’s office was having a rough day (don’t know why) and that made for a long wait.  But I like to wait patiently because you never know when it might be you who needs to be fit in for an emergency appointment or who needs extra time with the doctor.   Poor Annabel just wanted to see Baby Doot-Doot.  She uses the baby’s “name” to mean different things depending on what she is referring to.  Sometimes she means the baby blanket and sometimes the baby carseat but today she meant the doctor.  Still, it was funny hearing her in the exam room standing there saying “Come out Baby Doot-Doot, come out”.  I wish we had it on video so, as Mike says, we can play it for her whenever she says she wishes she was an only child.

Annabel has some new words.  She now says “office” and also “d” when she means down - that counts right?  There were some other words that surprised me today because I did not know she knew them, but even though she said them just today I already forget - where is my brain.

Still, back to the beginning, I am hoping for a June baby cause, well because um, it is just so darn hot so keep us in your thoughts. Plus, I am running out of clothes for my expanding belly but have a bunch of white onesies all washed and put away just waiting to be worn by Baby Doot-Doot.
